Kitchens play a very important role in the buying and selling process.  Buyers today want up-to-date kitchens.  What do buyers look for in up-to-date kitchens?  A lot depends on what price range your home is in.  It is important that you do not price yourself out of the market.  Compare to other homes in your neighborhood.  If homes are selling for $100,000 then this is not time to upgrade to granite, travertine and marble.   You simply won’t find a buyer.  If you are in a higher-end neighborhood then it is time to think high-end.  Your home may have a functional kitchen, however a buyer will take one look at your formica counters and consider how much it would cost to remodel.  Do not get overwhelmed, sometimes a kitchen update can mean doing just a few minor changes.  Here are some suggestions:  paint color to a warm, neutral tone.  Update your appliances, paint cabinets, change the pulls, or get a high-end looking counter for a fraction of the cost (faux-granite or lower end granite).  It is also very important that you get rid of the clutter.  You may want to consider saving by doing the work yourself.
